Founded by Margaret Sawers, Northcare was born from a simple yet profound belief that care should feel like family. What began as a personal vision has evolved into one of Scotland’s most respected care providers. Today, Margaret is joined by the next generation of her family, William and Katie, who continue to honour those same values whilst leading the company’s growth and innovation across Scotland.

Shaped by Margaret’s own experiences of seeking care for loved ones, Northcare’s ethos is deeply personal. These experiences underpin everything we do, inspiring our management, nursing, and hospitality teams to continually redefine what a care home can and should be. The result is a standard of care built on trust, dignity, and meaningful connection.

Margaret Sawers

Managing Director

For over 34 years, Margaret has dedicated herself to redefining what exceptional later living should look and feel like. As Founder of Northcare, she has built a reputation for creating homes where luxury, comfort and compassion go hand in hand – places that feel deeply personal, never clinical.

Leading the company’s growth and direction, Margaret remains closely involved in every aspect of the organisation. She prides herself on personally knowing every resident and employee, and her warmth, conviction and unwavering standards continue to shape the culture that makes Northcare unique.

What began as a single vision has evolved into a collection of remarkable homes – each one reflecting Margaret’s lifelong commitment to dignity, kindness and quality. Her legacy is not only in the environments Northcare creates, but in the lives enriched within them. That spirit begins with Margaret – and endures in every Northcare home.

William Sawers

Director

William plays a leading role in driving Northcare’s growth and ensuring the company continues to set new standards in luxury later living. His passion for operational excellence and hands-on approach underpin every aspect of the business – from the design and build of new developments to the daily running of each home.

Guided by an ambition to make Northcare truly industry-leading, William combines strategic vision with an unwavering focus on quality, innovation and care. He believes being exceptional means never standing still, and his commitment to continuous improvement has helped define Northcare’s reputation as both progressive and deeply personal.

William remains dedicated to the family values at the heart of Northcare – building a company recognised for its integrity, forward thinking and world-class standards.

Katie Sawers

Director

Katie plays a pivotal role in shaping Northcare’s design, people culture and operational performance. Her influence extends across every part of the business – from the creative detail that defines each home to the practical decisions that support efficiency and daily delivery.

Combining creativity with a strong commercial focus, Katie leads on people development and operational efficiency across the group. She works closely with managers and teams to uphold Northcare’s exacting standards while fostering a culture built on trust, respect and pride.

Her leadership blends strategic insight with a deep understanding of people, helping shape a company recognised for both its excellence and its heart. Katie’s dedication and vision continue to drive Northcare forward while staying true to its family values.

James Webb

Head of Quality & Care

With over 20 years of experience across Health and Social Care, James is a Registered Mental Health Nurse who has worked in a range of clinical and leadership roles.

The past 15 years have seen him operating at a senior management level, following earlier positions as Charge Nurse and Clinical Lead. Throughout this journey, he has shaped a clear vision of what outstanding, person-centred care should be – and how to inspire teams to deliver it.

As Head of Quality and Care at Northcare, James is committed to ensuring that every home consistently provides safe, compassionate, and personalised care. His focus is on driving excellence, supporting and developing teams, and fostering a culture where people, their wellbeing, and their dignity remain at the heart of every decision.

He is proud to work alongside colleagues who share his vision – to make a meaningful difference in the lives of those who deserve it the most.

Kate McKay

Head of Training & Development

With a background as a Registered Nurse and extensive experience across a wide range of NHS settings, Kate has been a valued part of the Northcare team for 14 years. Her passion for supporting others in their learning inspired her to complete postgraduate teaching qualifications and specialise in dementia education – expertise that now underpins her role within Northcare.

As Head of Staff Training & Development, and Lead for the Northcare Staff Development Academy, Kate plays a pivotal part in nurturing the skills, confidence and professional growth of our teams. She also serves as a Dementia Specialist Improvement Lead, using her clinical knowledge and educational experience to champion continual improvement and promote compassionate, person-centred care throughout all of our homes.

Driven, dedicated and deeply committed to supporting both residents and colleagues, Kate ensures that every member of the Northcare team is equipped to deliver the exceptional standard of care that defines our family-run organisation.

Craig Moody

Head of Client Relations

With over a decade of experience leading large, high-performing teams within the property sector, Craig has built a strong reputation for operational leadership, customer experience and driving sustainable growth. His career has centred on developing people, building trusted relationships, and supporting clients with clarity, confidence and care.

As Head of Client Relations, Craig directs Northcare’s sales and marketing strategy across Scotland. His focus is on enhancing occupancy, strengthening community and professional partnerships, and ensuring every family’s journey – from first enquiry to move-in and beyond – is handled with warmth, transparency and professionalism. He works closely with the Directors to support Northcare’s continued expansion and to uphold the organisation’s reputation for five-star, family-led care.

Craig is proud to work alongside colleagues who share his commitment to excellence, compassion and continuous improvement. Together, they strive to ensure every Northcare home delivers an outstanding experience for residents and families, every single day.

Hamish Maclean

Chief Financial Officer

Hamish joined Northcare in 2021 following a 30-year career in banking, working across both Bank of Scotland and the Royal Bank of Scotland in Corporate and Commercial Banking roles supporting organisations across multiple sectors.

As Chief Financial Officer, Hamish leads all financial operations across the Northcare Group. His focus is on strong governance, long-term sustainability, and strategic investment – ensuring the company continues to grow responsibly while delivering exceptional standards of care.

Hamish is driven by a commitment to clarity and transparency. He believes residents and their families deserve absolute confidence in the organisation that supports them, and he works to ensure Northcare remains a name synonymous with quality, trust, and stability.

Outside of work, Hamish enjoys family time, long dog walks, watching sport, and taking an active role in his local church community

Martin McKee

Executive Chef

A classically trained chef with a background in fine dining, Martin has built his career on the belief that food should not only delight but also comfort, connect, and care.

After refining his craft for seven years at a renowned country house venue in England, Martin transitioned into the care sector – bringing restaurant-quality dining into environments where food could make a real difference to people’s lives. His passion for raising standards saw him achieve national recognition, placing second in the NACC Chef of the Year competition before later winning the title outright in 2019.

As Head Chef for Northcare Scotland, Martin oversees a talented team of chefs across the group, guiding menu development, culinary innovation, and training to ensure exceptional standards in every home.

Beyond the kitchen, he has worked as a brand ambassador for Tetley Tea and consultant for British Lion Eggs, creating professional recipe videos and promoting nutrition, hydration, and dignity in care. His commitment to IDDSI standards and person-centred dining continues to set Northcare apart – proving that exceptional care begins with exceptional food.
